“Simple can be Good”
Hi, my name is Jim Lillicotch. I’m on the board of Music For MS. Here’s my short story.
Back in 2013, some folks came to the MS Society that wanted to help contribute by having a music festival and donating the proceeds. Is the answer to that anything but yes?
It also happened that my wife Nancy was at the Pittsburgh office of the MS Society that day. My wife is a person who lives with MS, but she is also on the board of the local chapter and volunteers there when she can.
They came in and asked for some help with their project. Among their requests was a website and my wife volunteered me for the job immediately. She knew I would do it, but to be honest, I must admit there was a moment when she came home and first told me, I was a little less than thrilled.
Then I met Mitch Arnold, his brother John and Tim Wolfson. As I got to know the whole group on Music For MS board, it became more interesting and fun. I had never worked with a group that got things done, so well, so quickly. We became a 501 (C) 3 non-profit in under 7 months in a time when the government was not working very fast.
I often thought about why things worked so well and what I kept coming back to was as simple as we were all pulling the same direction. Thing just kept humming along so well that I sometimes wondered what could go wrong. Of course, I never said it out loud. Then Aug 16, 2014 came and it was 78 degrees and not a cloud in the sky.
Things ran smooth as silk. Very few bugs, a wonderful time was had by all and in the end, we were able to donate $40,000 to the Pennsylvania Keystone Chapter of the National MS Society! The second year we raised another $45,000 and now the sky’s the limit!
